Blending Tradition with Innovation – Our Trade Mission to Japan
We recently had the incredible honour of taking part in a Trade Mission to Japan, organised by Scottish Development International, as one of just 12 Scottish food, drink or lifestyle businesses. It was an experience we’ll never forget — and one that marks an exciting new chapter in our journey at 8 Doors Distillery.
A Journey of Discovery
The visit began in Tokyo, where we spent two fast-paced, inspiring days immersed in market insights and cultural discovery. From exploring standout venues like The Playhouse and the Conrad Hotel to the unforgettable evening reception at the British Embassy, we were proud to share our story — and samples of our Seven Sons and Five Ways spirits—with local buyers, set against a backdrop of traditional Scottish music and produce.
Onward to Osaka
From Tokyo, we hopped on the iconic bullet train to Osaka for another two incredible days. Market visits, buyer meetings, and a showcase opportunity at the UK Pavilion at the Osaka World Expo 2025 gave us the chance to engage directly with press, buyers, and influencers. Our 10-year-old Seven Sons Blended Scotch made a splash as the base of a whisky highball—proof that our spirits can translate beautifully across cultures.
Shared Values, Global Vision
Throughout the visit, one thing kept resonating: the strong parallels between Japanese values and our own. A deep respect for craftsmanship. A passion for provenance. And a commitment to blending heritage with forward thinking. It reinforced something we’ve always believed—there’s a natural affinity between what we do in Scotland and what’s celebrated in Japan.
Looking Ahead
We’re already working with a customer in Japan, and this trip has strengthened our desire to grow that presence. The interest and enthusiasm for both Seven Sons and Five Ways was energising. Japan has truly captured our hearts, and we are excited to return and continue building meaningful relationships in a country that so clearly values quality and authenticity.
Thank You
Huge thanks to the exceptional team at Scottish Development International and the Department for Business and Trade for their support throughout the visit. And to our fellow Scottish businesses on the mission — you inspired us with your passion, your products, and your purpose. We’re proud to stand alongside you on the world stage.
This is only the beginning.
