The video shoot. Behind the scenes.
Websites are a big part of any new business. I’ve been writing content, changing page layouts and adding images to try and make the site interesting. Next step was to add a video… featuring us and telling our story… the ‘featuring us’ bit didn’t fill us with joy I have to say! ;-)
We’d much prefer a video with nice whisky bottles, images of other people drinking whisky, and some fantastic local scenery… but we knew that people would want to find out more about who is behind 8 Doors Distillery so we rolled up our sleeves and got involved.
Here’s a quick ‘behind the scenes’ run through of our video shoot.
We are lucky enough to be working with the very talented Scott Remy of Scene-It Media to shoot the video for our website. We checked diaries and numerous weather apps to plan the dates carefully…and then the good old Scottish weather decided that gusty winds would be a way to shake things up for us!
We started our shoot at the signpost in the heart of John O’Groats, a must-see and must-photograph part of any trip to the village. Bolstered by the fact that I hadn’t fallen over in the first few steps towards the famous John O’Groats signpost (it’s amazing how much you can over-think walking in a straight line when you know a camera is filming you) we started to explore the John O’Groats area more widely and introduced a prop by way of a whisky cask…we were becoming pro’s! ;-)
We made our way over to the Duncansby Stacks area which is along the road from where our distillery is being built. Beautiful views in every direction meant that Scott had plenty of options for filming, and with the help of Andrew Mowat who runs the Seaview Hotel in John O’Groats we picked some really spectacular spots for footage to showcase how we really are Whisky. From the Edge.
A quick stop-off at the Groatie Buckie beach on the way back to find some shells to bring us luck and we carried on . Then came the bit we were most nervous about… the ‘interview’. To make things easier we had a fantastic setting to film this in - the old John O’Groats Mill. The Mill Trust are in the process of bringing this into community ownership, we look forward to the day that we can get local barley milled there and create some whisky from it!
We rounded off the day with a few drams beside a campfire on the local beach with our family and Hector the dog who was a little camera shy.
We hope you can spot all these scenes in the final video. Thanks for watching!
